Speaking in tongues is the accepted New Testament evidence that a believer has received the baptism of the
Holy Spirit. The evidence that a person has received the Holy Spirit baptism still remains the same: the person
speaks with tongues as the Holy Spirit gives utterance. (Acts 10:44-46, Acts 19:6,)
• “6 When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues[a] and
prophesied.” Acts 19:6
• “44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45 The
circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been
poured out even on Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues[a] and praising God. Then Peter
said, Acts 10:44-46
• “17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak
with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them;
they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” Mark 16:16-17
